I am a Mother (to my six children and the earth), an Educator (through parenting , homeschooling, degree in Nursing, and life experience), an Artist (through quilting, mixed-media, photography and self-expression) and a Naturalist (from my passion for the natural world, animals, especially horses and the glorious acreage we live upon).
Children and family have been my priority and love in my life. I have six happy and successful children. Four are on their own, and my two youngest children have lived without school. They are independent learners who live a rich, full life by following their passions. They are 19 and 18. My son *chose* to go to high school and is now in college. I am also a grandmom to six little ones who are the light of my life.
I graduated from college and have a BSN in Nursing. I am a Registered Nurse although I choose not to work as one now.
We live on a 12+ acre farm, that we built over twelve years ago, and consider it our Joyful Journey, with it's abundance of nature and all our animals: Haflinger horses, free-ranging, pastured chickens, Polish hens, three cats, a Bulldog. and a Boston Terrier. We lost our Pekin duck, Gilligan a few years ago. He lived as happy life of eight years here. RIP Gilligan.
I have a deep love for Nature, Children, Animals and Art. I love to work with children and I have offered various workshops in Horses, Nature Journaling, Quilting and Art over the years. I am drawn to connecting people with the natural world and learning naturally.
A NEST IN NATURE came to be from my love of children and nature, the sharing of my passions of nature and art and wanting children to connect more with nature. It has evolved into Parent and Child Gatherings . HARMONY WOODS EARTH KIDS welcomes children between the ages of 7 and 14, homelearners, who want a deeper connection with nature and animals while exploring, discovering, investigating, and observing with other children on a regular basis. The children will record their joyful journey.
I would also like to offer Earth Kids on a weekend, after school, and summers, to be able to reach more children and allow them to connect with the natural world.
I believe children learn best by LIVING, by taking an active part in life, being able to do as much as they can, as safety allows. Children are very capable beings, often under-estimated by adults.
I am inspired by a combination of Charlotte Mason, Reggio Emilia, Waldorf and the Unschooling philosophy.
